Construction Superintendent Opportunity
The Construction Superintendent team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory invites candidates to apply for a Superintendent 3 to lead projects while working to achieve Lab missions. The Superintendent 3 will be responsible for and lead projects under $500k and provide oversight to Superintendent 2's as necessary. May initiate the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and / or accidents to identify the root cause and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions. May serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing, and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or subproject and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance. Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans. May be required to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends or issues to federal sponsors. May be required to work a flexible schedule - days and nights.

Minimum Job Requirements
Technical Leadership Proven leadership and management skills (organize, direct, control) a team of workers, including work schedules, project progress and resource allocation. Advanced experience managing construction projects including proactively managing project scope, schedule and budget including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS). Demonstrated experience identifying project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance / avoidance for all aspects of a project.
Technical Excellence Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations and D&D. Lead constructability reviews of the design process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule. Extensive knowledge and experience with facility maintenance and / or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety / authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems. Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades. Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out / tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Personal Leadership Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and effective customer engagement. Demonstrated experience interfacing with program, project, and line management to develop clear and executable action plans to address issues or needs. Provide personal leadership, direction and technical advice regarding health, safety and environmental compliance. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and establishing a recovery Plan / Path forward. Ability to determine actions to be performed on problems affecting maintenance programs.
Communication Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that includes reporting on project status to senior level management, project stakeholders, as well as regulatory inquiries. Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports. Demonstrated ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities including the coordination of materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers. Ability to promote an open communication environment to develop mutual trust and teamwork.
Education / Experience Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position. DOE Order 426.2 : Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for 2 of the 3 years nuclear experience. Note : An applicant who was not awarded a degree from the above expectation, would only qualify by having a minimal of 10 years of directly related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
LANL Operations + Applicant should display working knowledge of LANL Zero-Accident Safety programs, or respective industry program. + Experience and working knowledge performing construction modifications in nuclear facility operations or other highly complex, hazardous operations.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. This position will be in support of Technical Area 55.
Position Commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Note to Applicants : This position is for a Term appointment. A full-time employee hired for a period of up to a maximum of 10 years. Depending on performance a Termed appointment employee could be converted into a regular appointment status, discretion with management.
