Medical Laboratory Scientist

Responsibilities:

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested like patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable safety guidelines.
• Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all related activities.
• Follow established procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
• Identify and correct issues affecting test performance or reporting, or notify senior staff.
• Document all corrective actions.
• Report STAT or critical results according to procedures.
• Respond to questions from customers or laboratory personnel when applicable.
• Maintain complete records of all on-site testing.
• Maintain department appearance.
• Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, expiration, and opened dates.
• Review and train on new procedures.
• Attend departmental and training meetings.
• Participate in all required safety training and know locations of safety manuals and equipment.
• Participate in inspections when needed.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Qualification And Education:

• BS in Medical Technology preferred.
• BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology accepted.
• Candidates previously qualified as Technologists under 42 CFR 493.1433 (March 14, 1990) accepted.
• Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation
• National certification as MT/MLT from ASCP or AMT preferred.
