Temporary Position Summary :

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director for Wellness, the primary purpose of this position is to assist with the provision of wellness programming and health education to ensure a comprehensive institutional wellness program along with coordinating special programs / events and classes. These programs and services will be available for faculty, staff and students. This position also collaborates with campus constituencies concerning programs related to Health and Wellness. Service Sessions only; no sales required.

Will work 20 hours per week. Work Schedule To be determined.

Temporary Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Assume the responsibility of training new and existing clients who are interested in increasing their fitness levels and overall wellness;
• Provide clients with safe, reasonable exercises that they can perform in the gym as well as at home;
• Collaborate with group fitness and recreation for specialty programs and events;
• Assist client members in determining wellness goals in order to create appropriate fitness and wellness programs conducive to clients lifestyle which will encourage lifelong fitness and wellness;
• Collaborate with wellness staff in marketing the personal training program;
• Advise clients about important safety concerns and demonstrate exercises or maneuvers as needed;
• Work with groups of clients from 4-12 as well as some on an one-on-one basis;
• Assess clients fitness levels, screening for risk factors and helping them set appropriate fitness goals;
• Demonstrate exercises and routines to clients;
• Assist clients in exercises to minimize injury and promote fitness;
• Modify exercises according to clients fitness levels and physical ability;
• Monitor client progress to provide feedback to clients as well as data for the department in realizing learning outcomes and objectives;
• Provide information or resources on general fitness and health issues as it pertains to women of color;
• Provide emergency first aid if necessary;

Develop strategies for promoting health and resilience, mitigating risk, planning community health campaigns and messaging, and guiding the evaluation of these efforts.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelors degree in a related field with a minimum of three years of personal training experience in a fitness and / or wellness environment or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Required certifications must remain current.

Must have good communication skills with the ability to interact with departments, students, faculty and staff of the College.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to prioritize effectively; must be able to interact in a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations. Ability to work under pressure and high level of attention to detail. Must be able to read and interpret documents and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) which includes typing memos, letters, and e-mails.

Preferred Qualifications :

Masters degree is a plus.

Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions :

Must be certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer from an accredited program.

Must have a current First Aid certification or equivalent.

Must have a current Adult CPR certification or equivalent.
