General Description / Primary Purpose The Assistant Director – Resolution & Engagement will focus on offering resolution options for students and ensure the educational and developmental mission of the Office of the Dean of Students is achieved through various forms of training and engagement.

The Assistant Director – Resolution & Engagement is responsible for the administration of programs, policies & procedures for a functional area within a division or department. Responsible for the development and direction of new programs within the department. Assist in the development and implementation of strategies and objectives to ensure departmental goals are met. Develop, implement, monitor and report on key organizational and program performance indicators. Design and deliver presentations, workshops and educational/training materials. Train and supervise work of staff, students and volunteers as assigned. May represent the Director if absent. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence. Essential Duties Job Function
  • Responsible for leading the resolution and engagement efforts under the direction of the Dean of Students, including oversight of the alternative dispute resolution program, outcome management, informal academic integrity concerns, conduct forgiveness and appeal cases, student conduct board and educational initiatives.
  • Manage a Resolution Coordinator and Engagement Specialist, along with the faculty/staff/student volunteers and may represent the Dean of Students in their absence.
  • Assist in the development of proposals, recommendations, and reports to senior leadership and the implementation of departmental objectives based on the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Directs efforts to lead the alternative dispute resolution program and conducts informational and resolution-based sessions with students to help them work through difficult situations.
  • Reviews requests for referrals and hosts weekly open hours to promote healthy communication and conflict resolution skills for students.
  • Manages auxiliary conduct processes, appeals and forgiveness review, and may review investigation plans and/or reports as needed.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Resolution Coordinator & Engagement Specialist, including faculty/staff/student volunteers.
  • During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location.

  • Assists in the processing of informal referrals for Academic Integrity.
  • Maintains campus partnerships with other departments offering student services, including, but not limited to, PERCH, Housing & Residence Life, Student Government, Athletics, Department of Diversity & Inclusion, etc.

  • Manages outcomes from the Office of the Dean of Students, whether assigned through conduct, alternative dispute resolution, academic misconduct, or other areas.
  • Monitors cases for completion or connects with partners assisting students with outcome tasks.
  • Facilitates Guided Analysis sanctions, which focus on reflection, action planning and educating students on accountability and decision-making.
  • Required to have a working knowledge of all high profile and sexual misconduct cases, including provided documentation, to get a well-rounded understanding of the situation and prepare for possible Student Conduct Board involvement (panel hearings, academic violation panel forums, advisors, etc.)
  • Prepares all related correspondence and records for case load.

  • Manages development of volunteer staff, faculty and student members.
  • Manages the engagement plan, communication, membership roster and training program.
  • Develops the training curriculum and oversees the implementation of the program in relation to national best practices.
  • Oversees the logistics for the panel hearing/academic violation panel forum process and maintains Student Conduct Board communications.

  • Aids the Dean of Students in the management of the educational emphasis and engagement initiatives of the Office and works with appropriate university partners to ensure a consistent messaging is shared with students about University values.
  • Serves as back-up to the Dean of Students in their absence.
  • Responsible for having a strong understanding of FERPA, the Clery Act, VAWA, Title IX, and other local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
  • Assist in the development of statistical and informational reports, including dissemination of materials as necessary.

  • Maintains confidentiality of student records.

Required Qualifications This position requires either (a) Master’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; (b) Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c ) 8 years of direct experience.   • Strong oral and written communication and administrative skills along with experience in counseling and conflict management.
  • An understanding on successful supervision of professional personnel.
  • Knowledge and experience in Student Affairs as either an engaged undergraduate/graduate student or professional.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that your responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make you someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSAs responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
