Inside Sales Development Representative - Ocean Freight (NVOCC Services)

Essential Job Functions

  • Prospecting and Qualification : Identify and reach out to potential customers through email, phone, LinkedIn, and trade data tools. Qualify prospects and for larger opportunities set up meetings for the sales team to discuss solutions in greater detail.
  • Market Research and Targeting : Research target accounts and trade activity to understand shipping patterns, pain points, and potential fit for our ocean NVOCC services. Use this insight to tailor communication and outreach.
  • Sales Development : Effectively communicate the value of our ocean freight capabilities, including FCL, LCL, and consolidation services. Present our solutions clearly and accurately to generate qualified interest.
  • Closing of Business : Proactively pursue and close new ocean business opportunities with SME clients, managing the sales cycle from initial contact to contract signature. Ensure a consultative approach and deliver tailored solutions to meet SME logistics needs.
  • Collaboration on Larger Opportunities : For larger or more complex opportunities, work closely with the sales team to transfer qualified opportunities leveraging team expertise to deliver comprehensive solutions and maximize win rates.
  • CRM and Data Management : Maintain detailed and accurate records of outreach, activities, and pipeline progress in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Pipeline and Activity Management : Manage a consistent flow of outreach, follow-ups, and meeting scheduling to meet activity and conversion goals.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with sales, pricing, and operations to align on target accounts, messaging, and qualification criteria.
  • Professional Growth : Take part in ongoing coaching and development with the goal of progressing into an outside sale or account management role over time.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, some light lifting may be required in some instances.
  • Talking, hearing and using hands to operate computer equipment
  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in sales, business development, or logistics (ocean freight / NVOCC experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with international shipping, freight forwarding, and logistics terminology.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, target-driven environment. Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn and grow into advanced sales or account management roles.
  • Prior experience in logistics, ocean freight, or NVOCC services is a plus.
  • Other Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with prospects and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple outreach campaigns and follow-ups.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365) and data management tools.
  • Advanced research skills for identifying leads, analyzing shipping patterns, and understanding market trends.
  • Ability to qualify opportunities and tailor messaging to diverse customer needs.
  • Competence in prospecting via phone, email, LinkedIn, and trade data platforms.
  • Analytical thinking to assess client pain points and propose effective solutions.
  • Team collaboration skills to work closely with sales, pricing, and operations.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical mindset for researching shipping patterns and identifying client pain points.
  • Self-driven, goal-oriented, and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications and Licenses
