Job Summary
Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and noninvasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patientApplies and enforces principles of aseptic techniquePulling cases as need and breaking down cases at the end of the procedures.Scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures.Checks all equipment and reports or corrects unsafe conditions prior to placing on the sterile fieldVerifies exposure to sterilization process and integrity of sterile packagingSelects, prepares, and maintains instrumentation, equipment, and supplies, and spongesInitiates sponge, instrument, and sharp counts at the appropriate timeReplenishes necessary supplies and equipment for departmentStrictly adheres to hospital and department policies, procedures, and dutiesAids nurse with duties related to the care of the patient while in the operating roomAssists with proper preparation and disposition of specimenAssists with adequate preparation of the operating roomBehavioral Standards
Treats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions; displays a positive attitude.Communication / Knowledge
Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.Requirements : Experience
Preferred minimum 2 years’ experience as Scrub Tech in the OR.Ability to operate sterilizers and all equipment used in the operating roomBariatric experience a plus.Licensure / Certifications
Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, the National Center for Competency Testing, or an appropriate program for surgical technology through the United States Military.BLS from AHA
