SATELLITE OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY :
The Satellite Operations Center Technician will provide Tier 1 satellite and network operations support. The Technician is part of a team that ensures the effective monitoring, control, and configuration of a global satellite communications network including forward deployed satellite earth terminals and embedded network communications equipment. The Technician will provide daily operational support for iDirect technologies hub and remote systems supporting global TDMA / IP networks. An integral part of the team, the Technician's tasking will include shift work including some weekends and holidays.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Continuously monitor network and satellite space segment performance to provide customer Tier 1 and Tier 2 support as requiredRemotely troubleshoot VSAT systems via iDirect softwareResolve customer issues related to broadband IP communication via satellite transmission; support complex systems installations and startup at customer sitesMonitor iDirect TDMA equipment configurations and network performance, in real time, and report conditions and anomalies to the designated Team LeadPrepare reports on network utilization, performance and activity as requiredOpen and track trouble tickets via Remedy as required to resolve network or remote terminal issuesAnalyze and resolve end-user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate manner and provide end-user training where requiredMonitor and test satellite network performance and provide satellite network performance statistics and reportsAssist in network design and capacity planningIsolate and correct network faults using network management tools (iMonitor, iBuilder, and Solarwinds)Manage service restoration activities and track / update trouble ticketing system (Remedy)Provide status reports to customers and management personnelProvide testing and implementation support of new software releases for deployed network equipmentREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
High School Diploma or GED3-5 years of SATCOM experience or equivalent combination of education / training and experienceExperience managing and supporting iDirect Hub solutions, TCP / IP, general networking concepts, and strong knowledge of SATCOM / RF conceptsOne year education or directly related experience in network operations center support dutiesSecurity+ certification within 90 days of hireTop Secret (TS) clearance with SCI eligibility determinationStrong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team-oriented environmentStrong analytic and problem-solving skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
