Optim Orthopedics is seeking a full time Certified Medical Assistant (float) w / travel for the Savannah, GA location
Primary Duties : JOB TITLE : Certified Medical Assistant
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician, interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information on patients' charts and prepares treatment room for examination of patients. Travel required.
Promptly answer all clinical calls for the provider in a professional and efficient manner
and returns any messages related to the clinic with 24-48 hours using a tone that
conveys warmth, empathy and patience. Submits any medications refills requests as
delegated by the provider.
Reviews the providers schedule in advance to ensure the chart is prepped accurately
for the patient's visit, including but not limited to, inputting imaging / misc orders and
reviewing required paperwork related to the visit to ensure efficient clinic workflow for
the provider.
Notifies the Patient Access Department in advance of any re-scheduling that may be
required for the provider to allow timely processing of appointment rescheduling. May
be required to reschedule appointments due to last minute changes in provider's
schedule.
Demonstrates a courteous, friendly and professional demeanor while he / she greets
patients and visitors and portrays the same demeanor while assisting the patients to
the exam rooms.
Accurately enters all patient information into the EMR system during the intake,
including medication reconciliation, allergies and MIPS Quality data. Assist with the
review and data collection of the MIPS data to assist the organization with overall score
calculations.
Follows up with any referrals or orders by the provider to ensure patient has
conformed. In the event of patient non-compliance, notifies the provider and
coordinates communication and documentation to the patient. Documenting by
closing the referral loop / order in the EMR with the actual result, consult note or letter
of non-compliance.
Assists providers during clinic with drawing up injections, casting, dressing changes,
suture removals and other minor procedures and documents in the chart as necessary.
Completes any disability or workers compensation forms needed by the patient for the
approval and signature by the provider. Contacts patients once paperwork is
completed to verify the charge required and delivery of paperwork to the patient.
Charge associated for the paperwork will be collected by the front desk prior to the
patient receiving the paperwork.
Submits orders for any surgery and begins the process for pre-certification by
submitting the required order to the pre-cert department with all of the required
information and expected codes for the procedure. Any changes made to the surgery
schedule by the provider (such as cancelling surgery date) will need to be submitted to
pre-cert department to revise the authorization.
Assist with maintaining surgery schedule and initiating order for pre-certification and
scheduling. Coordinates obtaining any pre-op labs or clearances required prior to
surgery. Responsible for notifying and scheduling the appropriate surgical
product / implant representative if necessary for surgery. Coordinates and completes
the surgery packets for the provider to take to the facility on date of surgery. Packets
include all information required and is specific to each provider's workflow.
Assist provider to ensure that consult and Op notes are received from facility timely to
the coding department for charge entry.
Obtains any required prior authorization required by payer on behalf of the patient for
medications or injections ordered by the provider.
Uploads / scans previous medical records, imaging reports, forms or other clinical
related documents and properly labels document accordingly into the EMR / chart.
Reviews the staff and provider inbox in the EMR and processes documents efficiently
with accurate labeling and routing to ensure proper document management. Any
document that is not to be routed for further review to another department or practice
role, will be "closed" properly.
Will work at the satellite or PSA locations as needed or requested by the provider.
Responsible for ensuring the exam rooms are clean and free of any patient related
debris at the end of the clinic. Stock the exam rooms as needed during clinic to assist
the provider.
Assist the provider with attorney deposition or meetings. Coordinating the setting up
of the meetings, invoicing of payment and submission to accounting for proper
distribution to the provider.
Responsible for sorting and proper distribution of mail and paperwork for the provider.
Maintains a professional demeanor even when patients are upset, and contacting a
supervisor if necessary.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality when servicing patients.
May be required to work flexible hours and some weekends as needed by provider.
Maintains area of special assignment.

EDUCATION : 1. High School Diploma
2. Certified Medical Assistant required
EXPERIENCE : 0-2 years in a related field, Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
