Compensation : $160,000 $240,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
Position Overview
The Senior State Estimation Engineer will join the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team to develop and optimize algorithms that fuse data from multiple sensors to provide accurate and reliable state estimates for autonomous aerial systems. This role plays a key part in enabling advanced UAVs to operate safely and effectively in dynamic, complex, and contested environments.
Key Responsibilities :
Design and implement advanced sensor algorithms for processing data from IMUs, radar, cameras, GPS, and other sensor systems.
Develop and enhance multi-sensor fusion algorithms to improve accuracy, robustness, and overall system performance.
Create real-time data processing pipelines for state estimation and navigation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teamsincluding software, autonomy, and hardware engineersto ensure seamless integration of estimation algorithms.
Conduct experiments and field testing to validate performance under real-world conditions.
Stay informed on emerging technologies and methodologies in state estimation and sensor fusion to drive continuous innovation.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or Masters degree with 4+ years; or Ph.D. with 2+ years; or equivalent practical experience.
Hands-on experience developing and deploying real-time sensor processing algorithms (IMUs, radar, cameras, GPS, etc.).
Strong foundation in state estimation techniques such as Kalman filters, particle filters, and related probabilistic approaches.
Proficiency in C++ (C++11 or newer) and Linux-based development environments.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in real-time embedded systems.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality software solutions through complete development cycles in fast-paced environments.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience implementing inertial navigation algorithms on real-time systems.
Familiarity with computer vision and visual-inertial odometry techniques.
Expertise in optimizing algorithms for performance on compute-constrained platforms.
Experience with hardware acceleration technologies such as CUDA or FPGAs.
Proven experience transitioning technology from research and development to production deployment.
