Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician works under the direct supervision of the SPD Manager or SPD Shift Lead Tech. Must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the Surgical and Sterile Processing Team. He or she demonstrates a sense of professionalism and ethical standards. He or she is able to complete tasks as assigned and uses the appropriate resources and references available for processing instrumentation and equipment. Using attained knowledge of sterilization processes, the Sterile Processing Technician I will work independently in an ever-changing technical environment. Performs duties associated with processing of sterile instruments to include decontamination, assembly, autoclaving and dispatch. The Sterile Processing Technician I may or may not be certified. The Sterile Processing Technician I participates in all unit quality control activities. He or she must demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of their role to patient care. They are responsible for helping to maintain a safe environment for fellow team members as well as patients.

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Licensure or other certifications : National certification in Sterile Processing- Responsible for maintaining 12 continuing education points per year for continued Core Course completion status or certification or Surgical Technologist Certification is required for position.
