American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position in a Level 2 trauma acute care setting, requiring a WI or compact RN license and strong high-acuity surgical patient skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) within an acute care environmentUnit has 16 beds and 2 additional procedural bedsPatient population includes cardiovascular surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general and ortho surgeries, ENT, and any surgical ICU casesNurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2, 1 : 1 for high acuity (CRRT, post-op hearts, MTP, OPO) and 1 : 3 for med-surg / floor statusCare for immediate post-operative heart patients, CRRT, and use vasoactive drips requiredUnit uses Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic)12-hour rotating day / night shifts, with every other weekend and holiday requiredPossible floating to MICU or patient observation roles within the hospital if neededNo specific scrub color required, clean and professional appearance expectedResponsibilities include managing complex post-surgical and trauma ICU cases and titrating critical infusionsIntensivist and respiratory therapy staff are present 24 / 7 for supportUnit orientation includes one day of system onboarding and CBTs, followed by two orientation shiftsMust complete a skills checklist prior to startAgency staff may be scheduled for both day and night shifts and schedules are determined by unit needsHoliday coverage is required and self-scheduling is not available to agency staffLocal candidates (within 80 miles) may be considered at a reduced rateFirst time travelers are encouraged to apply\n \n Requirements\n
Active WI or compact RN license required by start dateMinimum 2 years of relevant SICU experience with high-acuity surgical patientsCertifications required : Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS, AHA), Basic Life Support (BLS, AHA); TNCC and NIHSS preferredProficiency in titrating vasoactive drips such as epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vaso, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinoneStrong rhythm strip reading and tele monitoring skills required, using GE monitorsMust provide 2 professional references, including at least 1 from a supervisorFormer permanent employees must have a 6-month break before being considered\n Benefits\n
