System Development Engineer, GSE Automation, Project Kuiper

Job Description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. We are hiring a System Development Engineer to develop and integrate hardware and software for satellite production manufacturing and test applications.

This is a highly collaborative position that interfaces with Project Kuiper production, engineering, and IT infrastructure teams.

Key job responsibilities

• Test system development and integration : The System Development Engineer is responsible for developing automated testing to verify functional requirements of Project Kuiper satellites and subsystems.
• Manufacturing automation development : The SysDE will develop automated manufacturing applications on the Kuiper SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) platform.
• Ownership and collaboration : The SysDE is responsible for learning and addressing the business needs through interaction with partner teams. The SysDE will generate requirements collaboratively, document and collect customer feedback on the design, then implement and iterate. The SysDE is a single-threaded owner, responsible for delivering functioning applications to production, providing support for startup activities, and participating in an on-call rotation for production downtime escalations.
• Security and compliance : Produce system architecture and design documents for end-user, front line support, and security review purposes. Ensure that system integrations comply with internal IT and Security standards, with code that is well-documented and version controlled.

A day in the life

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position. You will work with leaders in multiple technology areas across Project Kuiper to define and develop automation systems to meet the program needs. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimates and scheduling. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. About the team

The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) team is responsible for designing and commissioning automation and tooling for Satellite testing and production. This in-house team of engineers work directly with satellite designers, production teams, and manufacturing engineers to solve unique problems in high-volume satellite production.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience working in a production manufacturing environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
