- The standard shift is Monday through Friday, 8 : 30 AM to 5 : 00 PM; however, scheduling changes may occur based on staffing requirements.
General Purpose of Job :
A certified surgical technologist assists the surgeon and other professional and technical personnel in carrying out Operating Room and Surgical functions. Assisted care is administered under the direct supervision of the professional operating room nurse. The patient care population includes infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
Education and / or Experience :
Successful completion of accredited Surgical Technology Program or equivalentHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED)Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
Current national certificationCPR certifiedEssential Duties and Responsibilities :
Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.Communicates in a manner that encourages a positive work environmentTakes problems to appropriate person for help with resolutionRefrains from negative talk and gossipWorks together to promote teamworkDemonstrates competency in scrub roleCan verbalize needs for frequently done procedures in assigned serviceQuestions surgeon before procedure for any anticipated variances in particular procedures.Is knowledgeable of setup and usage of service equipmentUses sterilizers effectively and can verbalize knowledge of systems.Maintains a safe environment for the patient, physician and staff at sterile field, as well as throughout the OR.Sets up room appropriately for procedureTakes into account size of patient in selection of supplies, equipmentBreaks down room after procedure utilizing standard precautionsAssists surgical team before, during and after surgical intervention, including cleanup and getting patients when needed.Assists in maintenance, care and cleanliness of department, supplies, equipment, and instruments.Handles instruments, equipment in a manner that minimizes breakage, damageReports damage, breakage and removes item from usage.Transports instruments back to decontamination in closed carts following cases.Is knowledgeable of process improvement activities in unit and assists as requestedParticipates in staff meeting on a routine basisUtilizes self-directed learning activities to maintain competency and above.
