Job description

Overview

Position : Certified Professional Coder

Location : Nespelem Health Clinic, Nespelem, WA

Salary : $23.63 - $29.50 hourly, DOE

Closing date : Open Until filled with Bi-weekly reviews

Reports to : Patient Financial Services Supervisor

Location : Nespelem Health Clinic, Nespelem, WA

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate preparation and submission of claims to third party payers.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely performance of medical billing functions.
  • Communicates with clients and providers regarding insurance questions, partnering to ensure accurate insurance information is received.
  • Reviews and revises denials for resubmission to recoup claims.
  • Complete daily reports for insurance verification, claims submission, insurance billing and research.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Training :

  • Typically requires an Associate's degree.
  • Requires a certificate from a Medical Billing and Coding course of one year or longer (Transcript Required with Application) with coursework in bookkeeping or accounting and computer-aided applications.
  • Or 2 years of work experience in medical billing involving Medicare, Medicaid and Third Party payers with FQHC, IHS or Tribal programs specifically related to Accounts receivable management; certification from a nationally recognized financial association such as HFMA, AAHAM, or AAPC and must maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and eligibility for the Tribe's vehicle insurance and maintenance throughout employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Working knowledge of medical billing practices and accounting data entry, and maintaining source documentation.
  • Working knowledge of medical billing code sets including ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS.
  • Knowledge of the Tribe's medical codes scope.
  • Strong computer skills to use office software, revenue cycle software, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to write basic business correspondence, pre-formatted reports, and account footnotes.
  • Mathematical ability to compute sums, quotients, products, ratios, percents, and portions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to train staff and handle financial transactions professionally.
  • Knowledge of current third-party billing regulations, policies and procedures including modifiers.
  • Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines while maintaining data integrity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and work with Tribal reimbursement standards.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of contacts with courtesy and patience; maintain confidentiality of customer records.
  • Ability to perform clerical and record-keeping duties using medical billing software and revenue cycle tools.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with other teams and external customers, presenting a positive image of the Tribe and its services.
  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment with primarily sedentary work; ability to retrieve files and assist customers at a counter; manual dexterity for keyboard, 10-key, and general office equipment use; visual and auditory abilities for communication and data interpretation.
  • Commitment to above-average attendance and work ethic; ability to work with difficult customers.

    Note : Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. It is also subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing. Tribal member and Indian preference apply; preference to honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified.

    If required, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribe's Vehicle Insurance. This position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances and these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
