Job description

Accountant II

Accountant II performs standard to moderately complex accounting work requiring knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and FERC regulatory requirements. This position prepares financial and statistical reports, including financial statements and notes for regulatory agencies, management, and others; aids in drafting financial statements and footnotes of moderate scope and complexity for external and internal reports.

What you will do :

  • Uses established guidelines with some ingenuity required; develops accounting schedules, analyzes account balances, and analyzes and maintains accounting records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintains the general ledger and prepares financial statements and related reports / analyses and other accounting-related duties of the parent company, utility companies, SERVCO, and non-regulated businesses.
  • Interprets policy and uses independent judgment when making recommendations for accounting adjustments, procedural changes, and compliance with company procedures and various federal, state, and local regulations in all areas.
  • Responds to requests from regulatory bodies for accounting information and provides financial information to support regulatory and other audits.
  • Researches and implements regulatory accounting requirements.
  • Keeps fully informed of current developments in the accounting field, industry, regulations, and Alliant Energys procedures as these apply to assigned work areas.
  • Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energys Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements : Bachelors Degree Emphasis in business, accounting, or related field Preferred

Certification : Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation Preferred

Required Experience : 3 years of accounting experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, theories, practices, and procedures of the utility industry.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Knowledge of common accounting software
