Quality And Safety Director

Reporting to the Senior Director of Radiation Oncology Operations, the Quality and Safety Director leads comprehensive quality improvement programs across the Department of Radiation Oncology. This position holds department-wide responsibility for establishing radiation oncology performance standards that align with departmental objectives, institutional requirements, and regulatory mandates through active engagement with department leadership. The Quality and Safety Director manages significant clinical events, collaborating with relevant members of risk management, and external regulatory agencies, when needed. The role oversees clinical and technical policy development, implementation, and communication while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, ACR, ASTRO, and other radiation oncology-specific regulatory standards for quality management. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. This position's work location is fully remote with occasional time on-campus in Boston, MA. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

Quality Improvement Leadership :

  • Spearhead comprehensive radiation oncology quality improvement programs, oversee committee operations, and ensure team accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with risk management and quality improvement teams to address clinical incidents, refine treatment protocols, and conduct patient safety assessments.
  • Oversee peer review process and assessments across the enterprise, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Manage safety documentation and deliver strategic communications on radiation protection.
  • Manages quality improvement sites and systems to track safety reporting, QI performance metrics, and other quality improvement data.
  • Synthesize materials for presentations delivered to senior leadership, internal and external constituents, and present high-level reports on treatment quality indicators.
  • Serve as the radiation oncology representative within institutional quality and safety committees and represent quality and safety across the enterprise leadership teams and Radiation Oncology Network Development team.

Policy and Procedure Management :

  • Translate complex radiation oncology protocols for team members and executives.
  • Guide policy committee operations and guarantee diverse input from all stakeholders during protocol development.
  • Orchestrate regular policy updates for treatment procedures.
  • Standardize protocols across multiple treatment facilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance :

  • Oversee quality management operations for radiation oncology services.
  • Verify adherence to safety regulations and maintain accreditation standings.
  • Supervise treatment consent documentation processes.
  • Lead preparation efforts for accreditation reviews and address any identified gaps.
  • Special Projects and Administrative Leadership :

  • Work on special quality and safety projects as assigned by leadership.
  • May perform administrative leadership responsibilities including but not limited to developing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures, collaborating on budget planning and resource allocation and coordinating radiation therapy student education programs.
  • May manage staff recruitment, training, and professional development, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of experience working in the Radiation Oncology field with clinical and technical expertise.
  • Two (2) years dedicated experience in quality and safety. May include quality improvement (QI) and / or risk management committee experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Expert knowledge of radiation therapy techniques and technologies.
  • Strong project management and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Pay Transparency Statement : The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate's relevant experience, skills and qualifications. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) $121,700 - $141,900
