Position Summary :
The position of Mentor requires an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP / College Bound program. Employment and / or continued employment is subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. The position for Mentor reflects a person who shares their knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the academic growth of New Jersey GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) / College Bound participants. Mentors are examples of the academic goal of the NJ GEAR UP and role models that inspire NJ GEAR UP students. The power of mentoring is that it creates a one-of-a kind opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement, and problem-solving. Mentors are assigned to work with participants in the program to foster academic growth through activities such as one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, tutoring, classes / workshops, and field trips. These activities give students the motivation and preparation they need to attend and succeed in college. The program operates year-round during the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July-Mid August). Fall and Spring Sessions are Monday thru Thursday (Occasional Fridays) from 8 : 00 am until 2 : 00pm and / or 3 : 00pm until 5 : 00pm. Saturday Sessions are 20 sessions during the Academic Year from 8 : 00 am to 3 : 00 p.m. Note : Academic Year weekday school hours are adjusted as needed per school. Summer Session is currently up to six (6) weeks, Monday thru Thursday, from 8 : 30am until 3 : 00 pm with occasional Saturday events. The Summer Session is six (6) weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 8 : 30am until 3 : 00pm. Note : After and during school hours may be available based on specific school need during the Academic Year. Hours may be adjusted as needed.

Salary Information :
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate / range for this position is $16.00-$30.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education / training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
