We're seeking a hands-on, technically skilled Supervisor to lead our utility plant operations team at a major campus site in Baton Rouge. This role blends operational oversight with team development, compliance, and strategic optimization. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, leads by example, and brings a proactive approach to safety, scheduling, and system performance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of steam boilers, chillers, turbines, generators, and future CHP systems
Supervise and mentor a team of unionized plant operators, fostering skill growth and collaboration
Maintain shift schedules, payroll, overtime distribution, and compliance documentation
Lead training programs on plant systems, safety protocols, and operational best practices
Coordinate maintenance, shutdowns, and repairs using CMMS tools
Monitor system performance and implement strategies to optimize energy efficiency
Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and external utility partners to meet plant goals
Ensure full compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards
Respond during emergency events including hurricanes, storms, and other disruptions
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in utilities, HVAC, energy, chemical, or industrial environments
Strong leadership and communication skills in unionized settings
Technical expertise in boilers, chillers, cooling towers, RO systems, switchgear, and CHP systems
Experience with HMI systems, water lab testing, and safe chemical handling
Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory frameworks
Ability to analyze performance data and drive operational improvements
Universal EPA refrigerant certification preferred or ability to obtain
