Joint responsibility with the pilot in command for the safety and operational control of flightsAuthorizes, regulates, and controls flights according to government and company regulations to expedite and ensure safety of flightAssures that appropriate personnel are informed of significant changes in the flight status, such as specific aircraft to be used on flights, aircraft changes, aircraft substitutions, delays, unscheduled landings, diversions or cancellationsPreplans daily flight operations with primary emphasis on safety, efficiency, and economy consistent with passenger comfort and on-time performanceAssures that appropriate personnel are informed of significant changes in the flight status such as specific aircraft to be used on flights, aircraft changes, aircraft substitutions, delays, unscheduled landings, diversions or cancellationsInitiates operational flight information and time limit decision messagesAssures availability of crew and aircraft for each scheduled departureKeeps informed of progress of all inbound flights entering control area, location of aircraft, and crews out of position during irregular operationCoordinates for optimum utilization of aircraft and crews during irregular operations(s)Issues instructions in the dispatch area, which require implementation by appropriate personnel in the performance of those phases of duties pertinent to flight operationsEffective organization and planning skills are necessary in this positionMust be able to work independently as well as under direct supervisionMust speak clearly over the telephone and radio transmission and be understood by crew members and othersQualifications

Minimum age : 23High school diploma, GED, or International equivalentPossess a valid FAA Dispatch licensePossess a valid, unexpired and unsuspended state driver's license; some license restrictions may prohibit a candidate from being considered for this role.Understand basic concepts of weather, navigation, and aeronauticsMust be able to work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays and rotating days offPossess the legal right to work in the United StatesMust be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English languageAbility to understand and read a 24-hour clock, preferredWorking knowledge of FAA 121 Regulations, preferredPlease note : The description is intended to provide a brief overview of the position.
