- Patient Types :
Primary Care consisting of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine
- Age ranges : Fam Med - Birth to Geriatric; Internal Med - 18+ to Geriatric
- Common illnesses : Primary care deals with all illnesses to include but not limited to : chronic pain, diabetes, thyroid, weight / weight loss, URI, UTI, annual physicals, Medicare physicals, well-woman exams, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, depression, anxiety, etc.
Some providers / doctors perform procedures such as IUD removal / insertion, Nexplanon insertion / removals, toenail removals, I & D, and a few other 'minor' procedures. For the procedures they may have to be a chaperone the provider and, in some instances, hand the providers instruments or supplies they may use. Otherwise, they would just have to set up the room for the procedure being performed
- Required Certifications :
RN : BLS
- LPN : BLS
- MA : BLS; Certified MA - CMA certification must be issued by - AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or AMCA
- Education Required :
RN / LPN : Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; RN South Dakota License
- MA : High School Diploma / GED Equivalent in General Studies
- Skills required :
RN / LPN / MA : Primary Care experience is highly preferred
- RN / LPN : experience starting IVs strongly preferred
- Medical Assistant : Rooming of patients, ambulatory EPIC experience, MA skills to include : injections, EKG, point of care testing)
