Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Position

The 2025 hiring range is $79,539-$108,118 annually. Salary depends on education and / or experience. You are required to be Colorado P.O.S.T. certified by December 31, 2025. This application process is for our January 2026, In-House Mini Academy. Applicants will be required to pass a physical fitness test. All candidates hired for this academy will receive a $2,250 sign on bonus, plus up to $800.00 a month for childcare reimbursement during initial training while grant funds are available (conditions apply).

This is an appointed position that works at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This position is responsible for performing a variety of complex law enforcement duties. This position enforces Federal and State laws and County ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property. This position works under the general supervision of a Sergeant.

Duties

Examples of essential functions :

• Performs routine patrol duties for the purpose of preventing, detecting, and responding to suspicious or illegal activity.
• Responds to calls for service on an emergency or non-emergency basis.
• Conducts initial investigations of crime scenes / incidents to obtain pertinent facts and information.
• Conducts interviews of witnesses, victims, participants, or suspects at the scene of an incident or crime.
• Collects and preserves evidence and property at the incident or crime scene.
• Arrests suspects involved in misdemeanor / felony criminal activity; writes citations to individuals for minor violations of the law.
• Prepares reports, forms, and documents related to patrol activities.
• Utilizes in car computer system to : write reports, self-dispatch to calls for service, obtain call history, obtain history and in house records on contacted individuals.
• Appears in court as witness / complainant to provide testimony.
• Provides assistance, direction, and support to persons in need during non-law enforcement emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Is committed to a high standard of safety laws, and all of the Sheriff's Office policies and rules, and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
• Maintains regular and acceptable attendance at a level that is determined at the Sheriff's Office discretion.
• Is available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the Sheriff's Office determines is necessary or desirable to meet its needs.

• Follows and supports the mission, values, organizational philosophies, operational principles, code of conduct, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff's Office.
• Interacts effectively with others and exercises good judgment when dealing with people in sensitive situations.
• Performs duties regularly assigned to the Sergeant level in the absence of the Sergeant as a temporary duty.
• May have to act as incident commander until higher ranking person assumes command.
• May be assigned other duties as necessary.
