Operations Intern - Texas Southern University
The primary goals for interns are to gain an understanding of the construction process and to assist the Field Engineers and Office Engineers in field and materials management. The internship program provides the intern and Hensel Phelps with an extended opportunity to evaluate if the fit is right for a long and successful career with Hensel Phelps after graduation.
Position qualifications include strong communication skills, proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates, Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite. Candidates are preferred to be pursuing a 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, or Construction Management. Previously completed internship with Hensel Phelps is also preferred.
Essential duties include subcontractor management, submittal review skills, RFI development, layout / surveying, daily reports, and quality control and support of our safety plan.
Physical work classification and demands include moderate work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The individual will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read / see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger / type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity. The person in this position constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders, regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen, reads written communications and views mail submissions, climbs ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, balances, stoops, has visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle, and is occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures and frequently exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements.
