Job Description

The Patternmaker will work closely with designers, sample makers, and technical teams to develop patterns for both sample production and final manufacturing. This role is crucial in ensuring proper fit, construction, and overall garment quality.

Essential Duties :

  • Develop first patterns based on designers' sketches, specifications, and measurements.
  • Interpret design intent while balancing fit, construction, and fabric behavior.
  • Create, modify, and adjust patterns manually (by hand) and / or digitally using CAD software.
  • Collaborate with designers and technical designers during fittings to refine patterns for the perfect fit.
  • Work with sample makers to solve construction challenges and ensure production feasibility.
  • Grade patterns to create size ranges when required.
  • Maintain pattern archives and detailed documentation of alterations and revisions.
  • Ensure patterns meet the brand's aesthetic, quality standards, and production capabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience :

  • Degree or certification in Patternmaking, Fashion Design, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional patternmaking experience (experience in a particular category, e.g., womenswear, menswear, denim, is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, textiles, and production processes.
  • Ability to draft, drape, and grade patterns manually and / or digitally.
  • Experience with patternmaking software (e.g., Gerber, Lectra, Optitex, or CLO 3D).
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience working with luxury, contemporary, or streetwear brands.
  • Familiarity with sustainable garment construction techniques.
  • Basic sewing skills and familiarity with industrial sewing equipment.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during fittings, draping, or sewing.
  • Manual dexterity for pattern drafting, cutting, and pinning.
  • Ability to lift and move fabric rolls, mannequins, and sample garments (up to 25 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced studio environments, especially during seasonal collection development.
