Executive Director, Business Development

The Executive Director, Business Development plays a pivotal role in driving sales growth within a designated sector. This position combines strategic account management with proactive client acquisition efforts, enabling the cultivation of existing accounts and the pursuit of promising new opportunities. By crafting customized engagement plans and fostering strong relationships, the Executive Director elevates Syneos Health's profile in the biopharmaceutical industry while ensuring immediate results and sustained value creation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an innovative sales strategy tailored to a defined portfolio, balancing the acquisition of new clients with the expansion of existing relationships.
  • Optimize territory management by utilizing data-driven insights to prioritize time and resources based on client potential and market dynamics.
  • Identify and cultivate key client relationships, engaging with decision-makers and stakeholders to build trust and collaboration.
  • Lead the development of customized, multi-engagement sales strategies aligned with client needs and organizational goals.
  • Execute expansion initiatives, including stratified playbooks focused on therapeutic alignment and renewal opportunities to enhance account value.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including operations and therapeutic strategy—to co-create solutions that effectively address client challenges.
  • Serve as an internal client advocate by sharing valuable insights regarding client preferences and strategic priorities, helping align internal teams with client goals.
  • Educate clients on Syneos Health's unique value proposition and evolving service offerings.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews of the territory, forecast pipeline developments, and adapt strategies in response to changing client needs and market conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, opportunities, and sales progress in CRM systems such as Salesforce.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging client demands to continually refine engagement tactics.
  • Represent Syneos Health at industry events, client meetings, and conferences, enhancing brand visibility and identifying new opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in healthcare, life sciences, or biopharma within business development or strategic sales contexts.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex B2B sales processes and fostering relationships with mid to executive-level clients.
  • Exceptional consultative selling skills with a proven ability to identify client needs and co-develop effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills with a collaborative leadership approach.
  • Highly organized, capable of prioritizing tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with solid business acumen and strategic insight.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM platforms; competent in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for client engagements, industry conferences, and internal meetings.
