The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC), has an opening for a Correctional Industries Supervisor 1 (General Industries) position at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield, CT. This hazardous duty position is located with the Metal Shop responsible for producing products such as picnic table frames, aluminum signpost frames, plow pins, sign and cone holders, pre-warning sign frames, heil dump conveyers, pipe gates, Commissary carts, wing carts, truck boxes, metal silverware holders and many more interesting projects.

Position Highlights
Supervising and instructing inmates in skilled craftwork found in the metal fabrication industries, methods and techniques of manufacturing process / service, proper use of tools / materials, necessary safety rules / procedures / maintenance and cleaning / repairing of equipment.Assigning work to inmates.Generating and maintaining cost reports, production inventory data, and time records.Maintaining discipline and enforcing security measures within assigned areas.Conducting performance reviews of inmates.Related duties as required (see Example of Duties section).This is a full-time, Monday – Friday, 36.25 hours per week position on the first shift. Hours are 6 : 15 am to 1 : 30 pm.
About Us
The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution is a level 4 / 5, high / maximum security level multi-mission facility for adult males. It is the largest correctional facility in New England. The facility focuses on education (ABE, Pre-GED, GED, Special Education, TSOL) and vocational programs in the MacDougall Building (Maintenance, Electro Mechanical, Micro Computers, Electronic Repair, Dental, and Commercial Cleaning). Programming includes Parenting Skills, Sex Offender Treatment, Family Issues, Beyond Fear, Addiction Services, Aftercare and Fellowship AA / NA meetings. The Industries program employs up to 70 inmates; a Regional Commissary employs up to 60 inmates; other roles include food service, janitorial and related operations supporting facility hygiene and operations.

Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment in the occupational area.Knowledge of production planning and control techniques.Interpersonal and oral communication skills.Ability to interpret plans, keep records, train and supervise inmates, and use computer software.Supervisory ability.Minimum Qualifications
General Experience : Four (4) years of experience in a manufacturing environment involving production, production planning and / or quality control with some responsibility for the production output of others.
Substitutions
Experience performing technical duties within the maintenance trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General Experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience in a production manufacturing environment.Experience training, instructing, coaching, and monitoring the production output of a diverse group.Experience in problem solving and building positive working relationships.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).Experience with industry software such as MasterCAM, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and CNC software.Special Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old.High school diploma or GED at appointment.May be required to complete formal correctional training.May be required to possess a valid Driver's License or CDL.May be required to travel.Additional Qualifications
