Maui Humane Society : What drives us

Maui Humane Society is an open-air animal shelter for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals in need of safe shelter. We provide veterinary and routine care and helping surrendered animals find a new home. We also provide humane law enforcement services, humane education and outreach, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Day to day as a Animal Care Enrichment Specialist (Hybrid)

As a Full-Time Animal Care Enrichment Specialist at Maui Humane Society, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the health and happiness of animals in our care. Your daily responsibilities will include cleaning and disinfecting habitats, maintaining food and water supplies, and providing daily exercise and enrichment to enhance the lives of the animals. You will also be responsible for setting up incoming animals, maintaining accurate identification records, and closely monitoring any signs of illness, promptly notifying our Veterinary Department. Utilizing Fear Free techniques, you will assist with health examinations, ensuring a compassionate approach at every step.

You will engage with customers on the Adoption Floors to help match animals with their ideal homes, while also supporting our team in various aspects of shelter operations, from laundry to fundraising activities. Your efforts will contribute to a cooperative and positive environment, both for the animals and the community we serve.

To excel as a Full-Time Animal Care Enrichment Specialist at the Maui Humane Society, candidates must possess a general knowledge of animal behavior and care, along with the ability to work safely and responsibly with a variety of animals. Excellent customer service skills are essential for engaging with the public and ensuring a positive experience on the Adoption Floors. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for animal welfare and uphold the mission of the organization by treating animals humanely and fostering these values in others.

A positive attitude and the ability to multi-task are critical, as the role involves a dynamic work environment both indoors and outdoors. Previous experience in an animal-related field would be advantageous. Candidates must also have strong communication skills to follow instructions and maintain accurate records while being physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and remaining active throughout their shift.

• Must treat animals humanely with love and concern both on and off the job and transmit these values to others.
• Must adhere to all local laws regarding personally owned animals
• General knowledge of pet behavior and care. Ability to work with all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.
• Positive attitude a must!
• Additional Qualifications that would benefit this position :
• Previous experience in animal related field preferably with animal care
• Previous animal welfare experience
• Working Conditions : Primarily outdoors / indoors
• Equipment Used : Various cleaning tools animal care and restraint equipment. Printer / copier machine computer.
