Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Technician with hands-on experience in vibration testing to join our test engineering team in Odessa, TX. The ideal candidate will perform vibration and modal tests on components and assemblies, prepare test setups, collect and analyze data, and support root-cause investigations and product qualification activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor vibration test systems (shakers, fixtures, slip tables, controllers) for environmental and qualification testing.
- Build and install test fixtures and instrument test articles per engineering drawings and procedures.
- Install and calibrate sensors (accelerometers, strain gauges), cabling, and data acquisition systems.
- Execute vibration profiles (sine, random, shock) using test controllers and ensure adherence to test procedures and specifications.
- Collect, validate, and preprocess vibration and modal data for engineers (time history, FFTs, PSDs).
- Perform basic signal processing and generate clear test reports, plots, and summaries.
- Support troubleshooting and failure analysis by correlating test results with field or laboratory failures.
- Maintain test equipment - perform routine calibration checks, preventive maintenance, and inventory of spare parts.
- Follow and help refine safety protocols and test procedures; maintain clean, documented test records.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to meet delivery schedules and technical requirements.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or related field preferred.2+ years' hands-on experience with vibration testing in a lab or production environment (shaker operation, sensor mounting, data acquisition).Familiarity with vibration controllers and software (e.g., LDS / Br el & Kj r, VibrationVIEW, TestLab, or similar).Working knowledge of accelerometers, signal conditioners, dynamic strain gauges, and DAQ systems.Basic understanding of signal processing concepts (FFT, PSD, coherence) and test standards (e.g., MIL-STD, IEC) preferred.Proficient with mechanical assembly tools and reading mechanical drawings.Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and good written / verbal communication.Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs, work on ladders and scaffolding, and wear required PPE.Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Experience with modal analysis and laser vibrometry.Experience writing or editing test procedures and generating formal test reports.Familiarity with environmental testing (thermal, shock, vibration combined).Basic scripting or data-analysis skills (MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW).Relevant certifications (e.g., NVLAP lab experience, CAD familiarity).
