Striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families impacted by co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, the Clinical Counselor - Family Intensive Treatment (FIT Team) provides responsive, evidence-based, therapeutic mental health and substance abuse crisis-oriented services, focusing on the strengths and resources needed for the goals of client recovery and overall wellbeing. This involves providing immediate access to treatment in the community, providing appropriate individual, family and group therapy, and supporting clients in exploring multiple pathways to recovery. The goal is to help parents and caregivers make lasting therapeutic changes that will positively impact the lives of children, reducing the number of out-of-home placements and re-entries into the child welfare system. Overall, the Clinical Counselor - Family Intensive Treatment (FIT Team) contributes to the CHS high performance culture by exhibiting our values and providing quality results that position CHS as the leader in delivering proactive solutions for children and families.

  • Primary Job Functions

    1. Provide responsive, evidence-based, therapeutic mental health and substance abuse crisis-oriented services, focusing on the strengths and resources needed for the goals of client recovery and overall wellbeing.

    Clinical Services (50%)

  • Provide immediate access to substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment in the community, managing a caseload of no more than 15 patients, consistently achieving established productivity goals.
  • Use evidence-based practices to respond to mental / behavioral health challenges and to reduce the potential for future crises.
  • Provide continued crisis stabilization and care coordination as indicated; coordinate services with first responders, when needed.
  • Provide appropriate individual, family and group therapy, supporting clients in exploring multiple pathways to recovery, including harm reduction, medication assisted treatment (MAT) and abstinence.
  • Identify family-driven pathways to recovery and promote sustained recovery through cultural and gender-sensitive treatment and involvement in recovery-oriented services and supports.
  • Oversee the behavioral program or treatment interventions associated with the client's treatment plan; promote increased engagement and retention in treatment.
  • Make collateral contacts to assess client progress and functioning.
  • Engage in community networking and support to build relationships with law enforcement, community resource organizations, behavioral health organizations and local agencies.
  • Rotate weekend on-call crisis management with other team members.
  • Ensure appropriate processes are followed for informed consent and HIPPA compliance.
  • Child Welfare-Related Services (30%)

  • Facilitate concurrent planning between child welfare case planning and treatment plan goals, to integrate the family's strengths and needs with their dependency case plan.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers and Peer Support & Recovery Specialists to provide therapy, advocacy and relapse prevention skills to support parents in safely caring for their children.
  • Work closely with Case Managers to assist parents in completing case plan tasks, monitoring safety plans and increasing protective factors, including regular communication and case reviews to promote progress, child safety and collaboration.
  • Advocate for parent(s) / guardian(s) and assist in navigating the child welfare process.
  • Complete monthly progress reports assessing Caregiver Protective Capacities.
  • General Clinical Administration (20%)

  • Complete biopsychosocial, ASAM, treatment plan, discharge summary, clinical notes and other forms of documentation or assessment within designated timeframes, including monthly progress reports assessing caregiver protective capacities.
  • Develop and maintain monthly progress reports on client caseload and other documentation according to contract and CHS standards.
  • Complete billable units and enter applicable data into the Client Information System (CIS) and other data systems in a timely manner as required by the program and / or contract requirements.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team meetings, individual supervision meetings and other meetings, as required.
  • Participate in peer review process to oversee that services provided comply with contract, Medicaid and licensing requirements, COA and internal quality assurance standards.

  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training and education, as well as the quality process.
  • Comply with CHS's code of conduct, policies, procedures and other obligations.
  • Assist with training other team members and providing back up when necessary.
  • Pick up projects on the fly; perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

  • Job Qualifications

    Education, Licenses & Certifications :

  • MA / MS from an accredited university / college in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy or Mental Health Counseling - OR -MA / MS from an accredited university / college with a major in the field of Nursing, Rehabilitation, Special Education, Health Education or a related human services field AND have completed graduate level coursework in at least 4 of the following 13 content areas : human growth and development, diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology, human sexuality, counseling theories and techniques, group theories and practice, dynamics of marriage and family systems, individual evaluation and assessment, career and lifestyle assessment; research and program evaluation, personality theories, social and cultural foundations, counseling in the community settings, and substance use disorders.
  • FL Drivers' License within 30 days / hire, along with daily access to a reliable and insured vehicle.
  • For the Early Learning Centers Support Team : A non-licensed candidate shall be a registered intern working towards licensure to be considered.
  • Experience :

  • Two years of post-Master's experience, working with adults with substance abuse disorders.
  • Two years of experience providing services to persons with behavioral health disorders and / or the ability to be supervised by a licensed practitioner of the healing arts (LPHA).
  • Three years of experience dealing with emotionally disturbed children / adolescents, preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
