Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities : In accordance with State of Arkansas Civil Service statutes, Little Rock Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations and City of Little Rock Policies and Procedures, applicants for entry-level Firefighter positions must meet the criteria listed.

STEP #1 - APPLICATION AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS : Applicants must submit applications and supplemental information questions on-line here. Supplemental questions will be used for eligibility screening for job requirements available for review.

STEP #2 - WRITTEN EXAM : Scheduling notices will be sent via email to all eligible candidates. These appointments are available on a first-come first served-basis. The written exams will be conducted the October 21st, 30th, and November 1st. Location : Willie Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center. Times of exams will be provided when scheduling exam.

Step #3 - PHYSICAL AGILITY TESTING : Candidates eligible for the Physical Agility testing will be notified via email. Testing will be administered at LRFD Training the week of December 8th-12th, 2025. Dates / times will be provided to eligible candidates via email.

Step #4 - STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS : Interviews will be administered the month of January 2026. Dates / times will be provided to eligible candidates via email.

Step #5 - ELIGIBLE LIST : Candidates that successfully complete all steps of the hiring process will be placed on an eligible list ranked by composite score. These rankings will be used to select the candidates for the 2026 Fire Academy, tentative to begin March 2026.

City of Little Rock Benefits Firefighter Benefits

Work uniforms and "turnouts" (protective clothing used by Fire employees) are furnished by the City. Firefighters accrue sick leave and vacation leave as per the IAFF Union Agreement dated 2018-2019. The agreement may be viewed by visiting our website. All fifty-six (56) hour Firefighters will accrue sick leave at the following rate : Up to 4 years = 15 days per year (13.8500 hours per pay period) 4 years and over = 12 days per year (11.080 hours per pay period) All forty (40) hour Firefighters will accrue sick leave at the following rate : Up to 4 years = 15 days per year (4.617 hours per pay period) 4 years and over = 12 days per year (3.700 hours per pay period) Firefighters will accrue vacation as follows : Year of Service 56-hour employee 40 hour employee 1 year - 4 years...................... 7 tours................................15 tours 5 years - 9 years...................... 8 tours................................17 tours 10 years - 14 years................10 tours..............................20 tours 15 years - 17 years................12 tours..............................23 tours 18 years plus..........................13 tours..............................24 tours Leave accrues one year earlier than stated above so that the time is already accrued by the time these years of service designations are reached. Longevity Pay - Five (5) dollars per month for each year of service up to and including the 15th year, six (6) dollars per month for each year of service from the 16th year through the completed 25th year. The City will the cost of the employee portion for the City's health coverage for those employees who participate in the wellness component of the health care plan. Any employee who does not participate in the wellness plan will pay a cost established by the City towards individual coverage. The City will make available optional dependent health coverage, which may also include a requirement to participate in a wellness component. The City's contribution may vary based upon the dependents participation in the wellness component. The City will provide employee dental insurance at no cost to the employee. The City will pay six dollars ($21.94) per month toward the cost of family dental coverage for the duration of this memorandum. The City will provide, from the first day of hire, at no cost to the employee $25,000 life and $25,000 A D & D insurance, or an amount equal to the employee's annual salary, whichever is greater. The City will provide vision insurance at no cost to the employee and will make available dependent vision insurance. Firefighters certified as EMT personnel shall receive an annual allowance of one thousand six hundred eighty ($1,680.00) dollars; payments shall be made on a prorated basis of pay periods per year Retirement and disability benefits provided through the State of Arkansas Local Police and fire Retirement System (LOPFI) program. Other benefits include : Residency Incentive Program up to $5,000.00
