JOB SUMMARY
This position works within the General Ledger / Grant Accounting Department to maintain the College’s general ledger in order to carry out internal and external financial accounting and reporting responsibilities. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision and reports to the Controller.
This is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt position based in Columbia, South Carolina. The responsibilities of this position require regular presence in an on-site environment. The responsibilities may require work in the evenings and on weekends during peak periods.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Prepares general ledger entries and reconciliations to facilitate timely month-end closings.
- Analyzes and reconciles balance sheet accounts.
- Prepares monthly account analyses of balance sheets and income statement accounts.
- Assists with analysis of financial statements and variances on a monthly basis.
- Assists with month-end close of general ledger and analyses.
- Assists with annual financial and compliance audits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK :
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.Minimum three (3) years of high-volume accounting experience.Preference may be given to candidates with experience in higher education or not-for-profit accounting.Intermediate level or knowledge of all accounting functions and related internal controls.Some knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting applications.Must be proficient in Excel and Jenzabar a plus; must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Strong organizational and analytical skills.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Auditing skills with the ability to research and reconcile difficult accounts.Must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team player and with all levels of employees, management and external agencies to maximize performance, problem-solving and results.Evidence of increasing professional responsibility is essential and the ability to work proactively and independently.Detail oriented and organized in work.Ability to work as needed or required to meet assigned deadlines.PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Requires sedentary work that involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling some of the time. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
