Registered Sanitarian
Job Description
Registered Sanitarians in Texas protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the public from health and safety dangers. Their inspections are key to preventing and stopping foodborne and communicable disease outbreaks at the source.
Essential Functions
• Performs environmental health inspections and investigates complaints to verify compliance with state and local regulations; scope of work includes food quality and safety, wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality, water quality, insect and animal vector control, recreational and institutional facility inspections, consumer health and occupational health and safety.
• Organizes and presents training programs; applies and enforces statutes, regulations, ordinances and policies governing environmental health; prepares summary and status reports; assures that the services provided meet the program requirements.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.

• Supports the relationship between the client and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

Bachelor's Degree In Public Health, Science, or a related field is and 6 months of inspection experience.
Education can be substituted for the required experience. Required Bachelor's Degree Sanitarian Registration requires 4 yr. Bachelor’s Degree with 30 hours of Natural and Applied Science.

Knowledge of: Federal and state environmental health program regulations and requirements, including Texas State Department of State Health Services standards. Skills in: Understanding and applying state laws and City/County policies and procedures governing environmental and public health. Skills in: Maintaining accurate records and generating reports. Skills in: Utilizing standard personal computer software programs. Skills in: Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
