Job Description

Registered Sanitarians in Texas protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the public from health and safety dangers. Their inspections are key to preventing and stopping foodborne and communicable disease outbreaks at the source.

• 100% In Person
• Must have reliable vehicle as unable to drive city vehicles for inspections. Mileage reimbursement available.
• PT and FT available –firm availability needed when presenting resume
• Bi-lingual always a plus!
• Requirements listed below are non-negotiable as the licensure are a state requirement and experience allows for easier onboarding.
• Registered Sanitarian (RS)
• Registered in the State of Texas / Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (provide proof)
• Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
• National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) REHS/RS Certification (provide proof) Minimum 1 year of experience in the State of Texas
• Sanitarian in Training
• Registered in the State of Texas / Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (provide proof) Minimum 1 year Training in the State of Texas

Essential Functions
• Performs environmental health inspections and investigates complaints to verify compliance with state and local regulations; scope of work includes food quality and safety, wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality, water quality, insect and animal vector control, recreational and institutional facility inspections, consumer health and occupational health and safety.
• Organizes and presents training programs; applies and enforces statutes, regulations, ordinances and policies governing environmental health; prepares summary and status reports; assures that the services provided meet the program requirements.
• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.

Bachelor's Degree In Public Health, Science, or a related field is and 6 months of inspection experience.

Education can be substituted for the required experience. Required Bachelor's Degree Sanitarian Registration requires 4 yr. Bachelor’s Degree with 30 hours of Natural and Applied Science.

Skills in: Utilizing standard personal computer software programs. Skills in: Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
