Dental Hygienist At Integrative Dentistry Of New Mexico
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing hygiene treatment to patients.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Patient Management
- Work with administrative assistant to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency
- Accurately chart each patient’s periodontal health
- Perform a thorough prophylaxis for patients
- Perform scaling, root planing and selective polishing for patients as appropriate
- Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act
- Place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment
- Take radiographs / x-rays of patients as prescribed by dentist
- Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way
- Accurately and appropriately record provided treatment
- Teach proper oral hygiene techniques to patients
- Counsel patients on oral health, including the role of nutrition
- Perform other tasks assigned by the dentist and organization
- Look at schedule ahead of time
- Present in office products to patients
Treatment Room Management and Sterilization
Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulationsClean treatment room throughout the day and at the end of the day and turn off equipmentMaintain a supply inventory for hygiene treatmentReview, select and submit orders for patient education materials for the practiceSubmit supply orders to business manager once a month or as necessaryClean treatment room surfaces with disinfectant solutionAssemble soiled instruments and place in sterilization areaSort and package instruments by tray for proper sterilizationLoad, activate and vent the sterilization unit according to manufacturer’s directionsKeep all spaces clean and organizedRecords Management
Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with office policies and procedures and applicable legal requirements, such as HIPAA regulationsAccurately record medical and dental historiesAssist in the administration of the recall system (recare)Inventory Management
Monitor inventory and order dental office supplies as neededEnsure that treatment rooms are stocked at all timesOffice Participation
Help in other areas of the office when necessary (i.e., answering phones, unpacking supplies, moving former patient records, etc.)Be an active participant in team meetingsBeing honest and coming to the office manager and doctor with any concernsCompleting tasks assigned by the office manager, doctor, or other employeesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorilyPERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience
Must be licensed to practice in state and meet other applicable state requirementsMust have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education from an accredited dental hygiene programComputer skills [Dentrix ascend]Experience providing prophylaxis and taking X-raysInterpersonal
Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists and coworkersEffective verbal skills to communicate with patients and staffGood organizational skillsProficient in basic computer applications with the ability to learn new software.Motivating team player and leader.
