Human Resources Director - Cancer Research and Biostatistics (CRAB)

About CRAB

Cancer Research and Biostatistics (CRAB) is a non-profit organization with a mission to help conquer cancer and other diseases using the tools and expertise they bring to clinical trials. With over 25 years of experience working to advance clinical trials, CRAB is committed to providing accurate, timely, objective, and independent results to their clients to battle cancer.

CRAB attracts people dedicated to the mission, most of whom have a scientific or technical background.

A unique opportunity to influence strategy and culture

This position reports directly to the CEO and will serve as an advisor on people strategy and issues. Leadership values Human Resources, and a key focus of the role is to cultivate organizational culture, strengthen staff engagement and development, and establish scalable HR practices that support CRAB’s continued growth and impact.

Full scope of Human Resources responsibilities with support from other departments

The Human Resources Director is a standalone position with overall responsibility for the HR functions for CRAB. However, payroll is run by Finance, and the HR Director partners with the CFO and their team. CRAB is also a member of Archbright, which provides access to HR, safety, and legal compliance experts and information.

Key responsibilities include leading and coordinating all human resources initiatives, including recruitment, compensation, benefits, safety, leave of absence management, training, and employee relations.

Experience in implementing Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and other technology solutions is valued.

Relationship Building with managers and employees

The CEO and the organization value relationships and the power of addressing issues and concerns early. For this reason, the HR Director is expected to be in the office three days a week, specifically Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Most other employees are expected to be in the office two days a week. The successful candidate will view this as an opportunity to champion and model the hybrid work expectations. Availability to managers and employees is seen as critical to success.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.

PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification.

  • Five plus years of progressive HR experience, including leadership in benefit administration, recruitment, and employee relations.
  • Experience partnering directly with executive and senior leadership teams.
  • Proven success leading HR operations as a single-contributor in a small or mid-sized organization.
  • Demonstrated success in fostering culture and engagement and developing staff development initiatives.
  • Background in nonprofit, research, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Salary and Benefits

    This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $110-130K annually DOE. It is a hybrid position, based in Seattle with in-person office days Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday each week.

    CRAB provides 100% employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision coverage. A monthly benefit stipend can be used at the employee's discretion. Generous PTO and paid holidays. Employer contributions to the retirement plan are available after one year of service.
