HEPCO Inc., in collaboration with the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Supervisor to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across complex, high-visibility DOE projects.

The Project Engineering Supervisor oversees engineering work across all disciplines—civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls—ensuring that technical design, safety, and quality standards are met or exceeded. This position plays a critical role in planning and directing engineering assignments, interpreting technical requirements, organizing project execution, and coordinating design deliverables throughout the full project life cycle.
This role demands a proven leader with deep technical knowledge, the ability to integrate diverse engineering functions, and a commitment to the LANL mission of national security, scientific excellence, and operational safety.
Supervise and manage all engineering activities (across multiple disciplines) for assigned LANL projects or designated project phases.
Plan, schedule, and direct complex engineering assignments in accordance with DOE, LANL, and NQA-1 quality assurance standards.
Interpret technical requirements, organize engineering tasks, and ensure coordinated execution across design, procurement, and construction interfaces.
Provide engineering oversight for design development, constructability reviews, and technical problem resolution.
Lead multidisciplinary teams to develop design criteria, specifications, and technical documentation in alignment with DOE directives and LANL Engineering Standards.
Review and approve engineering deliverables to verify conformance with project scope, schedule, cost, and safety objectives.
Support risk management, change control, and configuration management processes.
Collaborate with project management, procurement, and construction to ensure seamless project execution and compliance with established baselines.
Mentor and provide technical direction to engineering staff, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university required.
15+ years' experience
Advanced degree preferred (M.S. in Engineering or Engineering Management).
Progressive, hands-on experience in engineering project execution and design supervision, preferably within DOE, defense, or large industrial / construction environments.
Experience may include project design engineering, startup, field engineering, or plant operations in complex facilities such as utilities, process plants, or research laboratories.
Prior supervisory or team-lead experience overseeing multidisciplinary engineering efforts.
Strong knowledge of DOE Orders, NQA-1 requirements, and LANL Engineering Standards Manual.
Proficiency with engineering design and project management software (AutoCAD, Revit, Primavera P6, MS Project).
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Experience with DOE O 413.3B (Program and Project Management for the Acquisition of Capital Assets).
Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM), Configuration Management, and Quality Assurance programs.
Demonstrated leadership in technically rigorous, safety-critical environments.
Active DOE "Q” or DOD Top Secret clearance (preferred, not required).
