Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor, this position is responsible for patient care in the clinic or ambulatory care setting. Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep clinic operations running smoothly. Duties and responsibilities may range from but, are not limited to, taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. The Medical Assistant Float must have HEDIS and I-Star knowledge and participation, and act under the supervision of the Clinic Director. The Medical Assistant Float must maintain adherence to policies, procedures and regulations of the Company and participate in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Company. The Medical Assistant Float will interact with other departments, clinic personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers.
1.1 Exhibit proper telephone etiquette.
1.2 Active participation and compliance to all the HEDIS and I- Star quality measures are prime responsibilities to assist the BFMC providers to achieve predetermined company goals.
1.3 Ensure proper handling, administration, and documentation of all medication and vaccines as ordered by the provider.
1.4 Anticipate, assist and perform procedures ordered by the provider. Performs sterile technique setup and maintaining sterile field when necessary.
1.5 Competence on procedures / services offered in BFMC Clinics :
1.6 Responsible for following the Standard / Universal Precautions by hand washing, using PPE, basic knowledge infection control and medical waste management for clinic setting.
1.7 Responsible for data entry and management of vaccinations in the CAIR website
1.8 Responsible for activating the Chain of Command if there are abnormal vital signs which is to report to MD / provider immediately.
1.9 Responsible to "room" patients, do the intake notes, including VS and complete NextGen MA Workflow
1.10 Responsible to ensure that the recent results of any tests are retrieved are ready for provider review
1.11 Responsible for performing "nurse only" visits with appropriate documentation :
1.12 Responsible for setting up for minor procedures such as PAP Smears / Suture Removal / I&D, etc.
1.13 Responsible for checking refrigerator / freezer temperature in the morning and evening and logging each temperature in the VFC binder. Report any abnormal temperatures to administration.
1.14 Knowledge of patient forms : DMV physical, sports physical, Handicap Placard, Disability, etc.
1.15 Responsible for sterilizing & disinfecting surgical instruments : autoclave instruments, preparation, and operation.
1.16 Understand the referral process & how to advise pts
1.17 Responsible for updating health maintenance on all preventative reports : Dexa scans, eye exams, mammograms, Pap smears, & Colonoscopy, etc.
1.18 Responsible to ensure all hospital notes have been retrieved to appointment for Provider to review on all EHR and HD's.
1.19 Responsible for managing the "tasks" that includes clearing tasks inbox daily, sending and receiving tasks
1.20 Handle all Senior Well Visits (SWV) and ensure compliance to keep appointment (annual chart update, need for labs and EKG prior to scheduled appointment.
1.21 Handle complaints in a responsible and professional manner.
1.22 Maintain a clean work area.
1.23 Assist with submission of referrals for the providers and case managers as appropriate.
1.24 Manage and follow the process for primary care provider (PCP) changes.
1.25 Process all incoming correspondence ensuring the following are completed prior to giving to the provider : must have patient's chart number, last visit, next visit date, refill requests, reports, results, paperwork.
1.26 Initiate and participate in code white / code blue / code red and code 7 as they arise.
1.27 Performa CLIA waived and moderate complexity lab testing and quality control as required by daily assignments.
1.28 Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the resuscitation equipment / STAT box.
1.29 Ensuring the monthly checks of supplies and medication expiration dates are checked and logs are up to date.
1.30 Refill maintenance Medications (Understand importance & internal policy for refills)
1.31 Willing to work at any location or department depending on staffing needs.
1.32 Other duties assigned by the supervisor.
8.1 High school graduation required.
8.2 Knowledge of computers.
8.3 Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
8.4 Current BLS certification.
8.5 One (1) year experience in a physician's office or clinic preferred.
8.6 Current venipuncture certification.
8.7 Valid CA Driver's License and current vehicle insurance.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $26.09 and $30.69.However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department / team performance, and market factors.
