ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to support our Weekend Program in the Orthopedic Unit at the McCandless location. Employees in the Weekend Program must have at least 6 months of experience and will receive an added 20% differential to their base rate for as long as they meet the Weekend Program requirements.
The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience.
Hours :
Our Patient Care Technicians in the Weekend Program work two 12-hour rotating shifts between the hours of 3 : 00PM on Friday and 7 : 00AM on Monday, a total of 24 hours per weekend, and 48 weekends per year. Any hours worked outside of this are considered extra and will be paid at the employee's base rate. Hours may vary by unit. Nursing students with 1-2 clinical rotations completed or candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.
Hired candidates will be required to attend Full-Time orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at the McCandless campus of Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.
Responsibilities :
o ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients
o Point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, & vital signs
o I&O
o Telemetry monitor application / reapplication
o HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs / SCDs)
o Clean catch / mini catheter urine collection
o Simple dressings
o 12 lead EKG
o Bladder scan
o All specimen collections

Qualifications :
o 1 Year of Experience OR
o enrollment in PT / OT / PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation OR
o completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
