Job Title : Principal Fire Property Engineer

FLSA Status : Exempt

Summary

Performs analysis of engineering drawings and / or designs, support product development in order to determine material selection based on compliance on flammability requirements. Applies experience and advanced skills to improve procedures, processes, and utilization of tools, equipment. Establish applicable requirements and Means of Compliance in support to certification programs. Approve Fire Properties documentation. Resolves most questions and problems as subject matter expert.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following other duties may be assigned.

  • Witness as delegated Authority, and Conduct flammability testing for Bunsen Burn, Heat Release, Smoke density and toxicity in accordance with regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Oversee the laboratory maintenance, perform actual maintenance, repairs, and calibrations of the flammability equipment, implementation of new equipment and procedures.
  • Support Non-Metallic Material assignment for projects, Review drawings and models provided by engineering.
  • Establish Flammability documentation to support certification programs, Create, Review and Approve as Delegate Authority Flammability documentation for certification of new products.
  • Design and create representative test articles based upon engineering drawings.
  • Conduct developmental tests for new and / or modified products.
  • Coordinate with FAA / ODA Designees on technical issues as necessary, including test witnessing and parts conformity inspection.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge and theoretical understanding in order to maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade flammability equipment.
  • Stay updated on FAA regulations and guidance material in showing flammability compliance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the process, procedures and specifications.
  • Be eligible for appointment as an ODA Unit Member or function as a delegated ODA Unit Member.
  • Create and update procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job may include supervisory, leadership responsibilities, Training and assisting other Fire Properties Engineers.

  • Requirements

    Education and Experience :

  • Position requires completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry and 8 years or more of experience in aircraft engineering and certification roles, or equivalent education and experience (18 years minimum in an aerospace related field).
  • Knowledge :

  • General Engineering : Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various systems, goods and services.
  • General Design : Able to read and understand Computer Aided Design (CAD) designs, drawings and specifications. General knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models. Familiar with CAD modeling tools used by Jamco America.
  • Certification / Aircraft Design : Extensive knowledge of the FAA requirements for the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) activities, installation of aircraft interior system / subsystem components, e.g. 14 CFR Part 25, design requirements and certification processes, especially on the fire protection activities. Be, or have potential to become, ODA Unit Member in this discipline.
  • Administration : Able to work in a team environment, able to coordinate projects from start to end, lead teams of fire properties engineers and accept required roles, responsibilities and accountability.

Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, technical data, engineering documentations, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to groups of customers, other employees, or organizations.
  • Judgment and Decision Making : Able to coordinate with outside organizations, such as program management and / or marketing / customer, to obtain critical data for review and appropriate decision making. Able to coordinate and lead Initial Technical Coordination Meetings (ITCM), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR) meetings.

  • Time Management : Managing one's own time and team resources / time allocation. Able to multitask and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Language Skill

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such a stately rule, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
