PHYSICIAN - CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON
Education : M.D. or D.O.
Training : Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in Surgery-General AND Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in Thoracic Surgery OR Completion of an integrated thoracic surgery residency developed along guidelines established by the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA) and having the approval or the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Thoracic Surgery (program must qualify practitioner to be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery).
Certification : Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading to certification in Thoracic Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. Board certification must be achieved within five years of completion of specialty training AND Applicant must be active in the MOC (maintenance of certification) program in Thoracic Surgery.
Description : Diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patients with pathologic conditions within the chest. Generally, this includes treatment of conditions of the heart, great vessels, lungs, chest wall and diaphragm.
