Basic Function

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life & Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students will be a creative, dedicated, and student-centered leader who is committed to enhancing a diverse and inclusive environment through supporting individual students of concern and adjudicating violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

As an administrative leader, the Associate Dean of Students will lead case management efforts for the Division of Student Life that connect to institutional retention efforts under the supervision of the AVP. Case management includes meeting one-on-one with students of concern, providing on-going case management best practices, and collaborating with key campus partners to provide academic support, social support, resources, and services for students.

This role advances the educational mission of the University by providing leadership for student learning initiatives which promote personal responsibility, and citizenship via the Student Code of Conduct. The Associate Dean of Students serves as a senior leader in the Division of Student Life and on campus committees that pertain to improving the student experience at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Essential Functions

General Associate Dean of Students responsibilities :

a. Develops and manages Student Life co-curricular initiatives that reflect the division's student

learning outcomes and supports academic initiatives

b. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with administrative offices and Academic

Affairs alongside the A VP for Student Life & Dean of Students.

c. Participates in the professional staff on-call rotation, as well as a member of the crisis

management team, which includes on-call procedures and responsibilities.

d. Serve on University committees, taskforces, workgroups, etc. as designated. e. Serve as co-chair of the Students of Concern committee

2. Case Management responsibilities :

a. Support individual students of elevated concern who are presenting with concerns of self-harm

and harm to others in tandem with the Students of Concern Committee and University

leadership alongside the A VP for Student Life & Dean of Sh1dents.

b. Case management and advocacy; work with individual sh1dents to connect them to appropriate

resources and supports on an ongoing basis.

c. Assist crisis management with the A VP.

d. Co-lead case management with the Assistant Dean for Academic Support & Enrichment

Programs for the Division of Student Life, Academic Affairs, and faculty.

e. Manage all student cases within case management / conduct software.

f. Serves as the Student Life leader and liaison for all initiatives related to EAB's Navigate.

Ensure Student Life Care Units are utilizing Navigate and data is used to improve programs and

services.

g. Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other faculty and staff to train the NDMU community

about referrals and supporting students of concern.

h. In concert with the University Retention C01m1iittee, build and execute strategies that retain and

support students with a holistic framework

Community Standards responsibilities :

a. Oversees the maintenance of all student conduct cases / records in accordance with University

policy and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

b. Interprets, implements, and recommends amendments to the University's policies and

procedures which regulate individual student and sh1dent organization conduct.

c. Develop and implement student orientation programs for incoming students.

d. Supervises the coordination and selection of the University's Honor Board. Directs the training

of the Honor Board related to student conduct policies, issues, trends, etc., overseeing the

operations of the non-academic student conduct system by receiving and distributing documents

for the Honor Board and arranging for and coordinating hearings / conferences.

e. Conducts research and analyzes trends relative to student conduct issues; prepares reports

associated with student conduct to include the executive summaries and annual reports detailing

campus disciplinary statistics to the A VPSL.

f. Serves as a liaison with campus administrative offices and student organizations.

g. Under the direction of the Title IX / 504 / ADA Coordinator, conduct Title IX and other

discrimination-related investigations which may include meeting with repo1ting and responding

parties, witnesses, and other parties, and collecting evidence to reach an investigative finding of

responsibility, and write investigation reports.

h. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging statutory and regulatory requirements

and best practices as it relates to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 as amended

(Title IX), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended (Title VI), Title VII of the Civil

Rights Act of 1964 as amended (Title VII), Section 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

(Section 504 & 508), Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended (ADA), Age

Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 as amended, compliance and other federal, state,

local and accreditation-related compliance requirements.

i. Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and conduct Title IX and other sex discrimination related

trainings, awareness events, and other compliance efforts for new and continuing students.

j. Serves as a member of the University's Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT;

formerly the Title IX team)

k. Manages Clery Act compliance for student conduct tracking and reporting to the Office of

Public Safety.

1. Mange departments budgets and assessment reports.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). A CSA is an individual, who by

virtue of their university responsibilities and under the Clery Act, is designated to receive and report

criminal incidents to the Department of Public Safety so that they may be included and published in

the university's Annual Security Report. This position is also designated as a Responsible Employee

(RE). A RE is required to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator.

5. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

Qualifications

Knowledge : Master's Degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, or a related field

from an accredited college or university

Experience : A minimum of four years of student development experience, p referable in the area of case

management, crisis management, residence life and student conduct.

Skills / Aptitude : Energetic, self-starter, creative individual who takes initiative in planning and problem

solving. Excellent organization, collaboration, computer, and communication skills are necessary to fulfill

position responsibilities. Ability to lead people, manage multiple priorities and deadlines, a strong service

orientation. Must have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff, faculty,

students, and families of students. Candidates will have knowledge of the mission of the University and a demonstrated commitment and understanding of the service orientation of Notre Dame of Maryland University. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with Maxient or other case management software is preferred.

Working Conditions : Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some weekend and evening hours may be required. Serves in on-call rotation with other Student Life staff. This position has been identified as having a potential risk for occupational exposure to potentially infectious material; as such, this position is required to be offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine at no cost to the employee, and annual training on Preventing Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens must be completed.
