Special Education Teacher – High School

Requirements & Qualifications
Certified by the Department of Education as a Special Education TeacherWillingness to pursue emergency certification as neededStrong ability to develop and implement IEP goals and objectivesExcellent written and verbal communication skills for working with parents, staff, and studentsMust Haves
Assess student functioning through observations, testing, and collaboration with colleaguesDevelop weekly individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goalsTrain and supervise teacher assistants in both academic and physical classroom tasksIntegrate therapies (PT, OT, speech, nutrition, behavior plans) into the classroom to support student growthProvide inclusive settings such as community-based vocational programming and collaborative opportunities with peers without disabilitiesMaintain daily communication with parents and caregivers about student progressPreferred Background & Skills
Experience developing community-based learning opportunitiesFamiliarity with alternate assessments and state standardsAbility to foster meaningful family engagement through home / school connectionsStrong organizational skills to manage reporting, progress notes, and evaluationsCollaborative mindset with a passion for creating inclusive, student-focused learning environments
