Job Description
This is a remote position.
The Data Processing Specialist will serve as a crucial link between Sunrift Adventures’ front-line retail / rental operations and its back-office systems. This role ensures that the data collected from sales, rentals, inventory shipments, returns, and vendor transactions is properly processed, integrated, and maintained to support accurate reporting, operational efficiency, and decision-making. Given Sunrift’s heritage (founded in 1980 and locally owned) and its broad array of outdoor gear, rentals and service offerings, this position plays a key role in ensuring that the business remains responsive, data-driven and able to “outfit adventure” both in-store and behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, organize and process incoming data from varied sources : point-of-sale systems, rental equipment logs (bikes, kayaks, SUPs), shipping / receiving records, vendor invoices, and inventory counts.
Verify completeness and accuracy of incoming data entries : check for missing fields, errors, inconsistencies, and follow up with retail / rental / warehouse teams as needed to resolve issues.
Enter and update processed data into company systems (inventory management database, vendor records, rental logs, sales history) ensuring format consistency, correct classification, and adherence to naming conventions.
Perform data merges, transformations, and migrations as needed (e.g., transferring legacy records into updated systems, consolidating duplicate records, cleansing archived data).
Generate and distribute regular and ad-hoc reports to management and operational teams (for example : inventory turnover summary, rental utilization rates, vendor shipment delays, outstanding returns) to support operational decision-making.
Maintain documentation of data-processing workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assist in training new staff or cross-training existing team members on data-entry and processing best-practices.
Work closely with the retail floor, rental desk, and warehouse / inventory teams to ensure that real-world activities are reflected correctly in the data systems—helping bridge gaps between the physical operations and digital records.
Identify opportunities for process improvement (automation of repetitive tasks, macro or formula creation in spreadsheets, moving data tasks from manual to semi-automated) in order to reduce error rates, improve data turnaround and support growth.
Uphold data privacy and security standards : safeguard customer information, vendor pricing and internal operations data; comply with company-policies regarding data retention, backups and access controls.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or coursework in business administration, information systems, or data management preferred.
Proven experience (ideally 1-3 years or more) in data processing, data entry, back-office support, database work or related administrative role—experience in retail, rental, inventory or outdoors-gear business is a plus.
Typing accuracy with strong attention to detail; ability to work with high volume of data, ensure consistency and adhere to strict standards of correctness.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets) including formulas, filters, basic data manipulation; experience working with database systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is advantageous.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple streams of data tasks, manage deadlines, and maintain quality even under periodic busy / rental peaks.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills—able to liaise with diverse teams (store sales, rental operations, warehouse / inventory, vendors) to clarify data inputs, resolve discrepancies, and follow up on missing items.
Familiarity or interest in outdoor gear, rentals, and adventure-retail culture is a plus—aligns with Sunrift’s brand and customer-first culture.
Reliable, self-motivated, able to work independently in assigned tasks, while also collaborating as part of a small team in a locally-owned business setting.
Benefits
Competitive salary or hourly wage based on experience.
Employee discount on outdoor gear, apparel, rentals and services at Sunrift Adventures.
Paid time off, sick leave and flexible scheduling (for full-time or eligible part-time roles) depending on company policy.
Opportunities for growth into senior data / operations roles, inventory management, or cross-functional roles in retail / rental operations.
Training and development in business systems, data workflows, process improvement and operational support.
Supportive, community-oriented work environment at a well-established local outfitter (since 1980) with strong customer focus and outdoor lifestyle.
