The Molding Department Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the injection molding area, including the setup, troubleshooting, and performance of molding machines, robotics, and vision systems. This position leads a team of technicians and machine operators, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and safety protocols are consistently met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise, train, and support molding technicians and machine operators to ensure optimal performance and skill development.
- Set up and adjust injection molding machines, robotics, and vision systems for production runs.
- Troubleshoot machine start-up issues, robotic integration, and vision system errors.
- Monitor production processes to ensure parts are being produced within specification and per approved parameters.
- Perform or oversee machine changeovers, ensuring proper mold installation and material handling procedures are followed.
- Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of machines, grinders, hoppers, and loaders during and after changeovers.
- Conduct regular quality checks (minimum two per shift) and coordinate with Quality Assurance to resolve any issues.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of daily production activities, changeovers, and machine events.
- Maintain feedstock inventory and communicate with the Planning Department as needed.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Tool Room, and QA teams on part designs, tooling, and material requirements.
- Promote and enforce adherence to all company safety procedures and policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to coach and mentor employees.Working knowledge of injection molding equipment, robotics, and vision systems.Proficiency in using measuring tools such as :Micrometers
CalipersPyrometersAbility to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and process-related issues quickly and effectively.Skilled in the use of mechanical hand tools.Capable of operating forklifts and overhead cranes (certification preferred or ability to obtain).Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written).Flexibility to work outside of scheduled hours as needed to support production.Education & Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent required.5+ years of experience in injection molding, with at least 3 year in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.Experience with robotics and automated vision inspection systems is a plus.Physical Requirements & Working Conditions :
Manufacturing environment with exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oils, and loud or sudden noises.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
