Job Description

The Revenue Specialist is responsible for offering excellent customer service to the customers of Sandy Springs. Their main duties include collecting, maintaining, recording, and reconciling various fees and taxes. This includes business and alcohol excise fees, license fees, hotel-motel taxes, franchise fees, property taxes, motor vehicle taxes, and various permitting and rental fees. They also handle tickets, fines, and funds related to parks and recreation, the police department, and community development.

Essential Functions :

  • Assist and manage in-person customers with payments.
  • Actively participate in the annual business and alcohol license renewal process, including preparing mailings, responding to inquiries, posting payments, following up on pending items, and printing and mailing business licenses.
  • Understands basic accounting concepts (revenue, expense, assets, liabilities, accruals, and reconciliations) and records financial transactions accurately and timely.
  • Responsible for imaging all documents to the customers files for record retention purposes.
  • Responds to all customer inquiries accurately and timely.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and implement directives presented by City ordinances and statutes.
  • Prepare end of day deposits and daily reporting.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a high volume, fast-paced environment with multiple systems
  • Ability to build ad-hoc reports from MUNIS ERP system.
  • Ability to proficiently reconcile checks, credit cards, cash, & ACH transactions to internal system reports.
  • Proactively reaches out to customers by phone or email to address and resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Communicates and interacts professionally, both verbally and in writing, with department staff, city officials, and external contacts.
  • Maintains knowledge base of information related to the revenue office processes to provide best in class customer service by answering customer concerns confidently and accurately.
  • Identify opportunities to further improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes, procedures, and information reporting.
  • Contact customers as needed to update contact information and collect outstanding revenue.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education / Experience : High School Diploma, Degree in Accounting or Business and 3+ years of previous relevant experience.

Technical : Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications & internet. Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.

Communication : Fluent bilingual skills in Spanish and English, both written and spoken. Communicates clearly & professionally. Contributes to a positive internal & external customer experience. Maintains composure in challenging situations. Collaborates with others. Asks for constructive feedback.

Problem Solving & Quality : Pays attention to detail. Identifies & solves problems. Escalates issues accordingly. Checks work for quality. Shares suggestions to improve quality & productivity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work environment is characteristic of an office environment : sitting, standing, walking, bending and lifting are required to perform job responsibilities. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 20 lbs.
