Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team in
Carlsbad, CA. WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTEWe’re looking for a mechanical engineering leader with deep technical expertise in motor technologies and drive systems. The Hydraulics Engineering Manager leads the . team responsible for pumps, filters, and valves, with an emphasis on variable-speed integration and motor-driven systems. This person should be highly fluent in motor design and performance, able to guide decisions on motor architecture, control strategies, and system-level behavior while leading a team focused on developing reliable, efficient hydraulic products. Additionally, you will:
- Lead and develop a team of mechanical and hydraulics engineers focused on pump, filter, and valve products.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for motor technologies used in hydraulic applications.
- Apply detailed knowledge of AC induction, BLDC, axial flux, and emerging motor types to evaluate and influence product designs.
- Collaborate with controls and electronics teams to define drive requirements, interface specifications, and performance targets.
- Review and interpret motor and system-level test data, including torque, efficiency, speed, and acoustic behavior.
- Translate product and performance goals into clear engineering requirements for both mechanical and motor systems.
- Guide supplier discussions and design reviews related to motor construction, materials, and drive integration.
- Oversee engineering deliverables, project priorities, and budgets, ensuring products meet design intent and reliability goals.
- Build and maintain a technically strong team that understands both fluid mechanics and electromechanical systems.
- Promote collaboration between global engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing groups to achieve common design and cost objectives.
WHAT WE SEEK- 10+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Expert-level understanding of motor technologies, including AC induction, BLDC, axial flux, and related control systems.
- Familiarity with motor performance fundamentals such as torque curves, losses, magnetic design, and efficiency tradeoffs.
- Strong understanding of variable-speed drives and how control algorithms interact with motor and mechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience in pump or fluid-handling product development.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, FEA, and CFD.
- Proven record of leading cross-functional engineering projects from concept through production.
- Clear communicator, comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and firmware disciplines.
- Travel 10–20% for supplier and team collaboration.
PREFERRED:- Background in electromechanical system integration and supplier collaboration for motors or drives.
- Familiarity with motor standards, safety, and efficiency regulations.
- Experience managing engineers working on variable-speed or electronically controlled products.
WORK ENVIRONMENT- Office and lab setting with occasional time spent in test or production areas.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed.
- Travel 10–20% for supplier and team collaboration.
EDUCATIONBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
