MIG / Cobot / Robotic Welder – Richmond, VA

Location : Richmond, VA 23231

Pay :

  • Robotic Welder (Day Shift) : Starting $22.40 / hour (based on experience)
  • Cobot Welder (once trained & moving to night shift) : Starting $24.40 / hour + $1.00 night differential (when qualified for night shift)

Schedule : Monday – Friday, 6 : 00 AM – 2 : 30 PM for Robotic Welder role; Cobot Welder may shift to nights once trained.

About the Role

Are you an experienced MIG welder with strong attention to detail and an interest in advanced welding technologies? Our client is seeking skilled welders for multiple roles in their Richmond fabrication facility, including traditional MIG welding, as well as cobotic and robotic welding systems. If you have welding experience and are eager to develop new skills with advanced automation, this is an excellent opportunity!

Key Responsibilities

  • Layout, fit, and weld fabricated steel frames and metal parts on the production floor using MIG welding equipment (with some TIG welding).
  • Work with or be trained on robotic welding systems and collaborative robot (“cobot”) welding equipment.
  • Set up torch / plasma cutter and grinder in standard and non-standard positions according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Weld in vertical, flat, horizontal, or overhead positions as required.
  • Use hand tools (tape measures, squares, clamps) to verify proper weld application and quality.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and ensure they meet blueprint and specification standards.
  • Prep and finish metal components via grinding or sanding.
  • Operate material handling equipment — forklift, overhead crane / hoist — and move / store materials and products properly.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) : welding helmet, gloves, protective apron or leather attire, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, fresh-air / forced-air respirators as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and adapt to evolving production needs.

    • What We’re Looking For

  • Up to 1 year of experience working with cobot welding systems OR up to 1 year of experience with robotic welding systems (one candidate needed for each).
  • Strong experience with MIG welding; TIG welding experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand English, interpret blueprints / engineering drawings, and perform standard measurements (tape measure, combination square, rule).
  • Mechanical aptitude, good math skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and consistent use of required PPE.
  • Vocational training in welding or metal fabrication, or at least 1 year working in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous fab shop experience preferred. Familiarity with JD Edwards ERP system is helpful.

    • Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects; reach with arms and hands.
  • Good hearing and ability to distinguish colors and shades.
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs without assistance; up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Stand and walk on concrete surfaces; crouch, kneel, stoop, or crawl; climb up to 4 feet.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts, in a loud manufacturing environment, with fumes or airborne particles, possibly wet / humid conditions.
  • Vision requirements : close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
