Job Summary
Based on the recent Proclamation : Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers (H-1B) , VSU will not be sponsoring any new H-1B visa petitions until further notice.
The Department of Music seeks applicants for a tenure track, faculty position to serve as Principal Tubist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra beginning August 1, 2026. Position is a full-time, benefitted position. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
The Department of Music is made up of ~30 faculty / artist teachers and over 150 music majors and minors. The department presents over 150 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles of the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast, and abroad, performing for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series. The Department of Music recently expanded into Powell Hall, a newly renovated, historically preserved, state-of-the-art music facility; featuring new administrative offices, a stunning 200-seat recital hall, faculty studios, rehearsal studios, and practice rooms. The Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is a professional ensemble housed within the Department of Music at Valdosta State University, offering a dynamic experiential learning environment where faculty musicians perform alongside students. This unique collaboration fosters artist growth, mentorship, and real-world performance experience for emerging musicians. The orchestra is widely recognized for its excellence, having earned the 2014 American Prize in Orchestral Performance. The VSO plays a vital role in enriching the cultural life of the South Georgia region.
