Student Care And Conduct Coordinator

The role of Student Care And Conduct Coordinator at Virginia Peninsula Community College promotes student learning and supports the safety and well-being of the campus community. The coordinator oversees the student care and conduct process, including investigating behavioral concerns, tracking student care and conduct reports, and coordinating the student conduct appeal process. This role serves as a hearing officer, adjudicates student conduct cases, and co-leads Care Team. Key responsibilities include managing Maxient cases and daily workflow, triaging student care, and conducting reports on grievances, complaints, and concerns, as well as leading campus-wide education, programming, and training initiatives related to community standards and expectations. The coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a respectful and safe learning environment. Under the direction of management, the Dean of Retention and Student Support, the Student Care And Conduct Coordinator responds to student well-being and behavioral concerns across the College and assists students by referring them to services and resources. Develops and implements college-wide policies, procedures, training, and education related to student behavior and student support issues. Partners closely with management and staff to determine an effective response that is consistent with applicable laws and College policies.

Minimum Qualifications :

Multi years of experience in a testing center, educational administration, or related area.

Experience managing staff and overseeing operations.

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and purpose; teaching and learning; high academic standards; and student success.

Knowledge and experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications.

Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty / staff, and the public.

Experience handling multiple cases at one time.

Demonstrated experience with policy and compliance.

Considerable relevant experience in any areas of student conduct process, administrative, civil rights, law investigations or related areas.

Knowledge :

Knowledge of student development theory.

Knowledge of current case management trends and literature preferred.

Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures and best practices in student affairs.

Solid understanding of student conduct administration, crisis management and non-clinical case management.

FERPA, HIPAA, Title IX, Clery Act, and trends in legal liability.

Skills :

Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, faculty and staff.

Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and critical thinking skills.

Managing conflict, deescalating crisis.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.

Ability to :

Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Understand the scope of authority in making independent decisions.

Review situations accurately and determine appropriate course of action using judgment according to established policies and procedures.

Quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources to make informed recommendations, supporting the welfare of the students.

Interpret, apply, and explain applicable College policies, rules, and regulations related to areas of responsibility.

Provide analytical data and statistics for planning purposes and submit planning suggestions as appropriate and / or required.

Manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Work independently or in a team environment.

Participate in the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for assigned programs.

Adapt to changing higher education environments and requirements.

Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Ability to work and travel to all campus locations.

Additional Considerations :

Experience working in an office setting.

Experience complying with the Clery Act, Title IX, Threat Assessment, and Clery is highly preferred.

Prior experience serving on a behavior intervention team is preferred.

Familiarity with the Maxient, Advocate, or student conduct platform.
