Warehouse Manager
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for purchasing, specifying, and managing the inventory of materials utilized in the City of Garden City's electrical distribution, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems. Ensures the availability of parts and materials required for new installations, routine maintenance and repairs, as well as emergency repairs, while maintaining cost-effective purchasing practices.
Examples of Duties
- Purchase and maintain inventory for all parts and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Keep up-to-date with new technology associated with inventory and parts / supplies for City utilities.
- Ensure that complete compliance occurs with quarterly and annual audits performed by outside firms of inventory / control measures.
- Guide and train employees to obtain specified goals and knowledge for their respective positions.
- Cross-train on other skills and tasks.
- Determine and purchase electrical transformers based on customer requirements.
- Assist in creation and coordination of work orders for water distribution, electric distribution, and wastewater collection crews to ensure required services are performed.
- May operate forklift to unload trucks as needed.
- Comply with City ordinances and practices.
- Assist other departments and perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Excellent math skills.Knowledge of streets and geographies within the City of Garden City.Thorough knowledge of inventory cataloging and procedures.Ability to operate a computer, calculator, and other office equipment.Understanding of electric meter applications.Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with other employees, City officials, businesses, and the public.Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to work under general supervision and make responsible decisions.Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.Education, Certification and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent required.Associate / technical degree or some college credit preferred.Minimum of three years of parts inventory control experience preferred.Valid Driver's License required. Must obtain a Kansas Driver's License within 90 days of establishing residency.Supplemental Information
Environment : May be exposed to wet / humid conditions, inclement outdoor weather, vibration, extreme temperatures, mechanical oils, moving / mechanical parts, potentially hazardous bodily fluids, potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents / chemicals, or loud noise levels.
Equipment / Tools Used : Standard office equipment including computers, tablets, fax machines, scanners, copy machines, phone systems, etc. Small hand tools; small engine equipment such as chainsaws, push mowers, etc.
Physical Characteristics : Must be able to sit, talk, hear, grasp, push, stand, walk, drive, reach with hands / arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb / balance, and operate mechanical equipment. Must be able to have repetitive wrist / hand / finger movement and manual dexterity. Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify / distinguish colors, and precise hand-eye coordination to operate office equipment. Must be able to lift 100 or more pounds.
