Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Neuro Med / Surg Tele RN for a 12-hour day shift position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and recent Epic experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 22-bed Neuro Med / Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
  • Primary patient population includes neuro and neuro-surgical patients with CVAs, elective back / neck surgeries, and cerebral angiograms
  • Caseload includes general medical overflow as needed
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4
  • Charge nurse carries a patient assignment
  • 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
  • Possible float to the medical unit
  • Recent Epic charting experience required
  • Candidates must be hard-working, resilient, and manage change well
  • Must have strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Social and adaptable candidates are preferred
  • Scrub color is navy blue
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required but subject to change
  • Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position

    • Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum two years of strong Med / Surg Telemetry experience required
  • At least one prior travel nursing assignment required
  • Prior neuro nursing experience required
  • Recent experience using Epic EMR required
  • Must be able to perform NIHSS assessments, dysphagia screening, and strong neuro assessments
  • Comfortable with telemetry interpretation, strict I&Os, straight caths, Foley catheters, initiating and titrating heparin gtts, blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures, NG tubes, and indwelling drain management
  • Must live more than 40 miles from the facility
