Responsibilities
Perform all aspects of stripping, curing, capping, and compression testing in the concrete and concrete aggregates testing labReport concrete cylinder strength test results according to ACI standardsProcess aggregate field test samples and reduce to the appropriate testing sizeConcrete testing to include temperature, slump, density, air content, cylinders, etc.Perform gradation tests on rock and sand samples along with additional tests such as durability, moisture, cleanliness value, #200 wash, sand equivalency, specific gravities, and absorptionsEnter test results daily into a computer database and distribute reports to appropriate individualsGather cement, fly ash, and aggregate materials at production plants in preparation for concrete trial batch testsAccurately weigh up each material as listed in the trial batch sheets and set up equipment for trial testingConduct scheduled calibrations on test equipment per the calibration scheduleAlways maintain work area and office equipment in a safe and clean conditionTroubleshoot job problems and handle job complaints (out-of-spec aggregates, low breaks, Schmidt hammer, cracking, coring)Analyze aggregate and strength reports and identify trendsWork directly with suppliers, vendors, and internal customers, as necessaryEducation
High school diploma / GEDDOT Soils and Aggregate CertificationACI Strength Testing Certification and ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1Requirements / Qualifications
Obtain and maintain the following :ACI Concrete Strength Testing (within six (6) months in position)
DOT Soil and Aggregate and / or ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 (within 1 year in position)Job requires the following motions : climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, sitting, stretching, vibration, twisting, pushing / pulling of controls, and riding on rough terrain, use of hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, driving / walking on uneven ground, and climbing stairsFrequent lifting up to 75 pounds, occasional lifting of 100 poundsMay be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather and be able to work in wet environmentsMust be able to work flexible hours with varying start and stop timesOvertime work will be required as needed by the companyMust meet OSHA 10 guidelines and be able to follow all CalPortland Safety PoliciesANSI-approved PPE will be provided and must be used when requiredMust be able to speak, read, and write in EnglishAble to work cooperatively with othersMust have a valid driver's license and be insurableTechnician subject to random drug and alcohol screens as required by the companyMay be required to perform Field Technician duties based on business needPreferred :
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP software
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug / alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration / clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
